ILOILO City – The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) arrested 235 wanted persons and 77 drug pushing suspects in one week (July 5 to 11) across Western Visayas.
In 230 operations against fugitives, PRO-6’s records showed 41 belonged to the top 10 wanted men in the municipal and province levels.
In 57 anti-drug operations, on the other hand, P1.3-million worth of suspected shabu was confiscated.
In the campaign against loose firearms, six persons were apprehended in six operations. A total of 99 firearms and 24 explosives were either surrendered or recovered.
According to PRO-6 spokesperson, Police Lieutenant Colonel Joem Malong, these achievements were products of the PRO-6’s weeklong initiative “Birada Semana” against loose firearms, wanted persons and drug personalities ordered by Police Brigadier General Rolando Miranda, regional director.
“We recognize the efforts of our police chiefs and city and provincial directors. We continue holding operations and the police will further intensify checkpoints especially on motorcycles,” Malong said.
On the other hand, the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) recorded the highest number of arrested individuals in the region at 63 – 22 of which were “most wanted” in the province and municipalities.
The IPPO also recorded 10 explosives and 35 firearms that were either seized or surrendered.
“I congratulate my police chiefs for doing better and responding to my order to intensify their operations against loose firearms, wanted persons, illegal drugs, and illegal gambling,” Gorero said. “I further encourage them not to stop conducting operations against any forms of illegal gambling.”
Also, Gorero said he is conducting day and night inspections to check the readiness and alertness of the police stations “especially in towns that are considered as high risk for insurgency.”
“We remind our police to be wary of the people around them,” Gorero said./PN
