ILOILO – The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) arrested 68 drug suspects in a weeklong operation dubbed “Birada Semana.”
“Four ang focus naton – illegal drugs, wanted persons, illegal gambling and loose firearms,” said Police Major Mary Grace Borio, PRO-6 spokesperson.
Fifty-two antidrug operations from Sept. 4 to 10 also led to the confiscation of over 500 grams of shabu valued at P3,497,090.
Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office made the most arrests – 29 individuals from 23 operations.
Iloilo City Police Office followed with 12 arrested individuals in seven operations, and the Bacolod City Police Office with eight individuals in seven operations.
“Naka-confiscate man kita 15 grams sang marijuana valued at P1,800,” Borio added.
Within the same period, 164 wanted persons and 37 most wanted persons were arrested.
In the campaign against illegal gambling, 41 operations led to the arrest of 127 individuals and the confiscation of P17,298 in bet money.
Further, 15 individuals were arrested for illegal possession of firearms. A total of 140 firearms and 20 explosives were recovered.
Compared with last month’s accomplishment, however, the number of operations was lower, particularly on confiscated drugs and surrendered and recovered firearms, Borio said.
Last month’s Birada Semana yielded over P22 million worth of shabu; 111 drug suspects, 243 wanted and most wanted persons, and 147 individuals for illegal gambling; while 173 firearms and 24 explosives were recovered.
Borio said a huge volume of drugs was seized a week before the focused operations, so the supply could have already been depleted. (With a report from PNA)/PN
