ILOILO City — A total of 85 firearms were recovered across Western Visayas in a single day as the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) stepped up its enforcement of Project RTT (Restrict, Track, and Turn-in).
Data from PRO-6 showed that various units conducted 91 operations against loose firearms from 6 a.m. on September 5 to 5:59 a.m. on September 6.
The 24-hour crackdown resulted in the confiscation of two illegal firearms and the voluntary surrender of 81 guns. Additionally, two more were deposited with police units through Accounting of Deposited Firearms for Eternal Registration (ADFER) operations.
Police operatives also seized 10 explosives and arrested two individuals in connection with illegal firearm possession.
Project RTT focuses on intelligence-driven and community-supported operations aimed at identifying, controlling, and removing loose firearms to prevent their use in violent crimes and other disputes.
Police Brigadier General Randulf T. Tuaño, PRO-6 director, emphasized that accounting for unauthorized weapons remains a top priority in safeguarding public order across the region.
“Sa ilalim ng Project RTT, tuloy-tuloy ang ating pagtutok sa loose firearms dahil bawat baril na ating nakukumpiska, naisusuko, o naide-deposito ay isang posibleng banta na naaalis sa ating mga komunidad,” said Tuaño. “Hinihikayat natin ang publiko na patuloy na makipagtulungan at suportahan ang ating kampanya para sa mas ligtas na Western Visayas.”
PRO-6 reiterated its call for individuals holding undocumented or expired firearm licenses to coordinate with the nearest police station for proper surrender and housekeeping./PN
