ILOILO City – Halfway through the year, the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) confiscated P114 million worth of illegal drugs and arrested 1,467 drug suspects.

From Jan. 1 to June 30, police stations across the region conducted a total of 1,087 antidrug operations, which resulted in the confiscation of 16,759.88 grams of illegal drugs — 17.93 percent lower than last year’s P20,422 grams with a street value of around P139 million.

Meanwhile, the number of arrested drug suspects increased by 48.48 percent from last year’s 988 arrests.

On the campaign against loose firearms, confiscations increased by 15.6 percent, or 289 from last year’s 250. This is despite having fewer operations conducted at 231 compared to 342 last year.

Data further showed an increase in firearms surrendered, from 1,643 to 1,846.

In the campaign against illegal gambling, the number of persons arrested increased by 7.88 percent from last year’s 2,462 to 2,656 illegal gamblers.

On the other hand, 667 wanted persons with high-profile cases and 2,750 fugitives with lesser offenses were collared.

In the campaign against illegal fishing, there were 472 operations conducted, which led to the arrest of 1,373 people. Some P792,190 in bet money was also seized.

PRO-6 director Brigadier General Sidney Villaflor said it is part of their preparation for the October 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.

“Ang lahat na ito ay ating preparation sa local elections. Expect more operations especially on the campaign against loose firearms and fugitives,” Villaflor told Panay News.

The PRO-6 chief recently reminded his men to review the list of persons who have pending arrest warrants and place them behind bars./PN
