ILOILO City – The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) seized over P2.5 million worth of illegal drugs and arrested 240 wanted persons across Western Visayas in a week of “Birada Semana” operations (May 8 to 14).
Sixty-six operations resulted to the seizure of P2,589,984 worth of shabu and marijuana, and arrest of 77 drug suspects, according to Police Brigadier General Archival Macala, PRO-6 officer-in-charge.
On the campaign against wanted persons, a total of 240 fugitives were arrested, 61 of whom belonged to the “top 10 most wanted persons” in their areas.
PRO-6’s record also showed 155 firearms and 14 explosives either seized or surrendered.
In the campaign against illegal gambling, 209 suspects were arrested in 69 operations. A total of P33,753 bet money was also confiscated.
“Despite these accomplishments, I continue to remind my men to work hard against drug personalities, illegal gamblers and those who have pending arrest warrants. We are also asking the help of everybody to maintain the peace and order in our area,” Macala said yesterday.
He then reminded the police chiefs to strictly implement the one-strike policy especially on illegal drugs and illegal gambling.
Macala, however, said illegal gambling in the region is manageable.
“But I ordered my men to hit harder sa mga nagpapa-bookies” he said./PN
