PRO-6 nets P46.12-M drugs in a month

ILOILO City – A total of P46.12 million worth of shabu was hauled across Western Visayas in one month of massive operation.

Data from Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) showed that from February 15 to March 15, there were 201 anti-drug operations conducted by various police units in the region.

These led to the arrest of 52 high-value targets and 207 street individuals, as well as the seizure of 6,783.26 grams of suspected shabu and 86 grams of marijuana.

“These accomplishments showed the dedication of my men to the fight against illegal drugs, and we are really happy that our men responded to our call to not let up on illegal drugs,” PRO-6 director Brigadier General Jack Wanky said.

He also acknowledged other law enforcement agencies that helped in the campaign, especially in securing the local ports and transport hubs to prevent the entry of drugs.

It was learned that the Regional Maritime Unit 6 (RMU-6), together with the Philippine Coast Guard and Philippine Port Authority, recently convened to intensify operations in all local ports in the region.

According to RMU-6 chief Colonel Ervin Glenn Provido, sniffing dogs will be deployed, particularly at the Dumangas port, as drug traffickers see the province as an ideal transshipment point.

“We have to work hand in hand to eradicate illegal drugs,” Provido added.

On the other hand, the biggest yield in this region so far came from the operations in Iloilo City, wherein suspected shabu with an estimated street value of P23.6 million was seized, followed by Iloilo province with P12.27 million, Negros Occidental with P6.1 million, and Bacolod City with P2.32 million.

Last week, the Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit 6, with support from various units of the ICPO, arrested three high-value individuals and two street-level individuals during a sting in Barangay Tanza, Baybay in Iloilo City, and confiscated 1,955 grams of suspected shabu, valued at P7.17 million./PN
