ILOILO City – The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) seized 1,184.73 grams of shabu valued at P8 million in a weeklong operation dubbed “Birada Semana”.
The 54 anti-drug operations from Oct. 9 to 15 also led to the arrest of 65 drug suspects.
Among the biggest seizures was recorded in Barangay Poblacion Delgado, Calinog, Iloilo on Oct. 12. The 30-year-old Joemarie Celestial of the said barangay yielded P4,080,000 worth of shabu.
PRO-6 record also showed 194 wanted persons were arrested in 203 operations. Of the 194, 45 belonged to the top 10 most wanted persons and 149 were charged for minor offenses.
Police also listed 140 firearms and 21 explosives that were either seized or surrendered in 13 operations.
In the campaign against illegal gambling, the 44 operations resulted to the arrest of 127 suspects and seizure of bet money amounting to P29,157.
PRO-6 director Brigadier Sidney Villaflor lauded his men for the successful operations.
“I commend all police stations that did well in attaining the mission and vision of the organization. We scored big anew in the campaign against illegal drugs, illegal gambling, loose firearms, the accounting of wanted persons, Internal Security Operations, and even in illegal fishing,” Villaflor said.
For his part, Brigadier General Archival Macala, PRO-6 Deputy Regional Director for Administration, said these accomplishments showed that police personnel in Western Visayas are really serious against lawless elements especially in the campaign against illegal drugs and fugitives.
“The arrest of wanted persons and confiscation of P8 million worth of shabu were big contributions to the region’s peace and order situation,” Macala added./PN
