ILOILO City – “I fairness to Police Colonel Roland Vilela, dumaan sya sa matinding screening sa Camp Crame.”
This was what Brigadier General Rene Pamuspusan, director of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6), said when asked about the background of the incoming director of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO), specifically the police official’s involvement in a so-called sex scandal over a decade ago in Davao City.
“He passed the screening. Twice siyang nag-undergo ng screening,” said Pamuspusan.
Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. chose Vilela to replace Police Colonel Marlon Tayaba from a list prepared by the Philippine National Police headquarters.
According to Pamuspusan, before the national headquarters make a recommendation to the appointing authority, possible nominees are vetted by a “sub-board committee”, then the PNP Senior Officers’ Placement and Promotion Board will do the final checking.
“I can guarantee that Vilela is a good officer. He is an intelligent officer. The fact is, nakapasa sya sa screening,” said Pamuspusan.
Aside from an alleged sex video scandal, another controversy hounding Vilela was an alleged rape of a 17-year-old commercial sex worker in Davao City.
His wife, a police officer, eventually sought a marriage annulment but not before accusing him of bigamy, robbery and physical injuries.
“Baka naayos na nya ang mga kaso nya,” said Pamuspusan./PN
