PRO-6 raises almost P8M COVID fund

ILOILO City – The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) has raised P7,926,312 million for the Philippine National Police’s (PNP’s) Bayanihan Fund Challenge, a fund-raising drive that would benefit poor families economically displaced by the ongoing enhanced community quarantine.

Police personnel across Western Visayas contributed to the fund, according to Police Lieutenant Colonel Joem Malong, PRO-6 information officer.

The Bayanihan Fund Challenge aims to raise over P200 million from individual voluntary contributions of PNP personnel in response to President Rodrigo Duterte’s candid admission of the government’s extreme difficulty in providing the basic needs of the poorest of the poor during this coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

“This fund-raising program is voluntary. Depende sa aton mga pulis kun pila ila mahatag. We are happy kay daku natipon naton. Bilog amon sweldo subing nga bulan, wala sang buhin so we have reason to give bigger,” said Malong.

Malong said the collection will be until April 30 and the gathered money will be forwarded to the National Treasury.

If the PNP can raise P200 million, every family-beneficiary is projected to receive between P5,000 to P8,000.

The PRO-6 has its own version of this fund-raising drive.

“We are hoping that by the end of this month we can raise over P10 million. Our regional director, Police Brigadier General Rene Pamuspusan, is very thankful to the men and women of PRO-6 for sharing their extra money even if they, too, are affected by the enhanced community quarantine,” Malong added./PN
