ILOILO City – The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) has affirmed its readiness for today’s start of the national election campaign period, with heightened security measures in place.
Election day is May 12.
PRO-6 spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Arnel Solis reassured the public. However, challenges persist, particularly with police manpower distribution.
Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) Ddrector Colonel Bayani Razalan previously highlighted personnel shortages in areas like Ajuy town, which the presence of armed groups has been alleged.
“There’s already a lack of personnel in the town,” said Razalan.
Solis said the PRO-6 will deploy personnel based on real-time assessments, prioritizing areas with potential security threats.
“Even in areas without incidents, our security coverage will continue,” said Solis.
The PRO-6 is coordinating with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) and the Joint Security Control Center to address election-related threats, including online vote-buying.
Solis also urged voters to select candidates with proven leadership and strong track records, stressing that the country’s progress hinges on electing competent leaders.
The campaign period for local elective posts, on the other hand, will commence on March 28.
PRO-6 assures the public that measures are in place to maintain peace and order throughout the election season. /PN
