PRO-6 receives 1,200 high-powered guns

ILOILO City – The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) recently received 1,200 firearms to better equip its personnel in the fight against lawless elements.

PRO-6 director, Police Brigadier General Leo Francisco, received 750 Galil ACE 22N rifles, 250 M16 assault rifles, and 200 .9mm Girsan pistols during the command visit of Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, Police General Rodolfo Azurin Jr., at Camp Gen. Martin Teofilo B. Delgado on Nov. 10.

According to Francisco, these were in line with the PNP’s project to equip all police officers with long and short firearms.

Long high-powered firearms would be distributed to the personnel assigned in mobile forces and police stations with insurgency threats, while the short firearms would be given to rookie cops.

“The acquisition of these police basic equipment will help intensify our operational readiness toward achieving a more capable, effective and credible police force. Malaking tulong po ito sa atin,” Francisco added.

On the other hand, the region’s top cop will also check police stations that do not have enough mobile patrol.

“If we have enough patrol cars, there’s no reason na hindi tayo makapag-respond ng mabilis in case of emergency,” Francisco said./PN
