ILOILO City – Two months into the implementation of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban, the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) arrested 99 violators across Western Visayas.
From Jan. 9 to March 8, the persons arrested were from the following:
* Negros Occidental – 42
* Iloilo Province – 17
* Aklan – 11
* Iloilo City – 10
* Bacolod City – nine
* Capiz – five
* Antique – three
* Guimaras – two
According to PRO-6 director, Police Brigadier General Flynn Dongbo, aside from the persons arrested, cops also confiscated 58 assorted firearms and 47 bladed weapons.
The 58 firearms were from Negros Occidental (23), Iloilo province (13), Bacolod City (seven); Aklan, Antique and Capiz (with four four) four each; Guimaras (two), and Iloilo City (one).
Meanwhile, the 47 bladed weapons belonged to Negros Occidental (21); Iloilo City (10); Aklan (seven); Bacolod City (four) four Iloilo province – three and Capiz (two).
“We will continue to intensify our efforts through the conduct of Comelec checkpoints across the region in coordination with the Armed Forces of the Philippines and Philippine Coast Guard. It is our objective that the upcoming May 9, 2022 national and local elections will be secured, fair, peaceful and orderly,” said Dongbo.
He addded: “We cannot do it alone, we need also the cooperation, support and commitment of everyone to achieve this,” Dongbo said./PN
