PRO-6 vies for PH’ best reg’l police office

ILOILO City – The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) is among the five candidates in the search for the best police regional office in the country in line with the 118th anniversary celebration of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Major General Daniel Macatlang Jr., director of the Directorate for Integrated Police Operations – Western Mindanao, evaluated the PRO-6 last week. He expressed satisfaction.

“I am very happy that the PRO-6 was this prepared,” he said.

Other candidates vying for the award were the PRO-12 (Soccsksargen), PRO-4A (Calabarzon), National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), and PRO-8 (Eastern Visayas).

Macatlang said the candidates for best PRO garnered the highest ratings in terms of the PNP directories in the aspect of operation, investigation and intelligence.

“We will validate their reports and documents, including their actual simulation exercise for us to check how prepared they are…their actions taken in different situations,” he said.

The PNP has assessed the preparedness of the regional office on instances like suicide bombing.

“We prepare and the exercises are one way to test the preparedness of the regional, provincial and municipal police in case the same situation will happen in their area,” said Macatlang.

The PRO-6 has a “huge chance” of winning, he added, because the validation team was impressed with its welcome briefing, accomplishments, its camp’s well-maintained cleanliness, and police personnel in proper uniforms.

The best PRO award will give high recognition to the police personnel and the regional director. The regional flag streamer of the winning PRO will be attached with a banner bearing the “Best PRO of the Year,” Macatlang said.

Personnel and members of the winning PRO will also receive commendation, which can be converted by the personnel into awards, and eventually can be converted into leave credits.

“So the personnel of the winning PRO can go on vacation or leave with pay,” he Macatlang.

The result will be released a week before the PNP’s anniversary on Aug. 18. (PNA)
