ILOILO City – The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) is ready to launch operations against illegal electronic sabong (e-sabong).
It is just waiting for the formal written order from the Philippine National Police headquarters, said PRO-6 spokesperson, Police Lieutenant Colonel Arnel Solis.
President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday prohibited e-sabong, saying it has adverse effects to health and family values.
“May mga reports nga damo naguba nga pangabuhi tungod sang e-sabong,” Solis said.
On July 20, 2021 Patrolman Marvin Del Castillo, 27, of Sara, Iloilo and assigned at the San Joaquin, Iloilo police station was found dead in Barangay Damilisan, Miag-ao, Iloilo.
He was speculated to have killed himself over mounting debts incurred due to onlle cockfighting.
Duterte ordered an end to e-sabong operations following the recommendation of Interior Secretary Eduardo Año.
“The recommendation of Secretary Año is to do away with e-sabong,” Duterte said in his Talk to the People taped on Monday and aired on Tuesday.
Before this, Duterte disclosed having asked Año to conduct a survey through the Department of Interior and Local Government to find out the social impact of online sabong./PN
