PRO-6 welcomes new PNP chief

ILOILO City – The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) welcomed the appointment of Lieutenant General Guillermo Eleazar as the new chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

“General Eleazar has a good name. He’s a good official. The PRO-6 fully supports whatever his undertakings would be,” said Police Lieutenant Colonel Joem Malong, spokesperson of the PRO-6.

President Rodrigo Duterte signed the appointment of Eleazar as the new PNP chief yesterday as confirmed by Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque.

The Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) also expressed support to the new PNP chief.

Eleazar will replace PNP chief General Debold Sinas who will retire on May 8 at age 56.

Before his new appointment, Eleazar served as the PNP deputy chief for administration.

Eleazar belongs to the Philippine Military Academy “Hinirang” Class of 1987.

He also served as chief of the PNP Directorial Staff.

Eleazar had served as director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), the Quezon City Police District, and the Police Regional Office 4-A (Calabarzon).

Eleazar gained popularity for imposing strict discipline on policemen when he was Metro Manila’s top cop, punishing erring cops, and rewarding cops who made the police organization proud.

Eleazar will have a six-month stint to lead the 200,000-strong police force. He is set to retire on Nov. 13.

To note, four police officers vied for PNP chief. The others were Metro Manila police chief General Vicente Danao, deputy chief for operations Lieutenant General Joselito Vera Cruz, and chief directorial staff Lieutenant General Israel Ephraim Dickson.(with PNA/PN)
