ILOILO City – The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) welcomed the appointment of Police Major General Benjamin Acorda Jr. as the new chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Acorda, a graduate of the Philippine Military Academy “Sambisig” Class of 1991, is the 29th head of the PNP.
He replaced Police General Rodolfo Azurin Jr. who turned 56 years old yesterday – the mandatory age of retirement in the police force.
Police Brigadier General Leo Francisco, PRO-6 director, said Acorda is a good officer.
“The PRO-6 fully supports the new PNP chief whatever his undertakings would be. We have to support his programs/projects for the betterment of the PNP,” Francisco said.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. installed Acorda as the new PNP chief, the second under his administration.
Acorda was previously the head of the PNP’s Directorate for Intelligence.
He hails from Ilocos Norte, the hometown of Marcos.
On April 20, Police Major General Jesus Cambay Jr., head of Directorate for Comptrollership in Camp Crame, also retired during his 56th birthday.
Most of Cambay’s assignments were at the PRO-6. He had been designated as commander of the Metro Boracay Task Force under the leadership of then PRO-6 director, Police Major General Cesar Hawthorne Binag./PN
