Probe ordered vs ‘illegal’ culvert to address Bacolod flooding

BACOLOD City – The city council is seeking an immediate investigation on the alleged illegal construction of a culvert in Purok Mabinuligon II, Barangay Sum-ag that may be contributing to the flooding problem in Bacolod.

A resolution issued on Wednesday, Sept. 6, requested the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), City Engineers Office (CEO) and City Legal Office to spearhead the probe.

The city council received a letter from Purok president John Ray Tragico requesting a copy of the approved subdivision plan for the proposed Jingle Ville Subdivision.

It stated that an alleged illegal construction of a culvert in the subdivision impeded the water flow at Kabiguan Creek.

Upon checking with the Office of the Bacolod Housing Authority for the approved subdivision plan, Councilor Jude Thaddeus Sayson said they responded that the “subdivision was not even listed in their ledger of the list of subdivisions that were duly issued a Development Permit.”

Aside from investigating, the city council also asked the DPWH, CEO and CLO to institute proper measures and solutions./PN
