Projects await cleanest, greenest Bacolod brgys

The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry recently named Bacolod as a business-friendly local government unit under City Level 1 category. The citation, according to Mayor Evelio Leonardia, will help Bacolod attract more investors.

BACOLOD City – Hundreds of thousands worth of projects await the winners of the Search for the Cleanest, Greenest and Most Well-Managed Solid Waste Management Program of Urban and Rural Barangays.

The first evaluation will be between Aug. 20 and Sept. 7, said Councilor Cindy Rojas, chairwoman of the Sangguniang Panlungsod committee on environment and ecology.

Rojas is spearheading the search along with Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, head of the city government’s Solid Waste Action Team.

The councilor said the May elections made them decide to move the first evaluation originally scheduled in June to give newly installed officials time to clean and beautify their barangays.

Rojas already made special mention of Barangay 17 under first-termer village chief Rogelio Fabiana. “He (Fabiana) assumed his post only on June 30 but on July 3 I noticed his barangay is already beautiful and clean.”

There are 61 barangays in this city. Rojas hopes other barangays would emulate Barangay 17.

The second and final evaluation will be from Oct. 1 to 19.

Prizes in the Rural Barangay category are:

* first place – P350,000 worth of projects

* second place – P250,000 worth of projects

* third place – P200,000 worth of projects

* fourth place – P150,000 worth of projects

* fifth place – P100,000 worth of projects

* 10 consolation prizes – P20,000 worth of projects each

On the other hand, prizes in the Urban Barangay category are:

* first place – P300,000 worth of projects

* second place – P200,000 worth of projects

* third place – P150,000 worth of projects

* fourth place – P100,000 worth of projects

* fifth place – P50,000 worth of projects

* 30 consolation prizes – P15,000 each

Investors are attracted to a clean and beautiful city, Mayor Evelio Leonardia stressed.

“If our city is clean, we will be healthier. Health is a very important aspect of our well-being,” he added. “And more important than all of these is our environment that we should always protect.”/PN
