ILOILO – The provincial government is gearing for the 118th Semana sang Iloilo celebration from April 8 to 12.
Semana sang Iloilo marks the establishment of the civil government of Iloilo province on April 11, 1901.
The week-long celebration is themed “Iloilo: Banwang Pinalangga, Puno sang Bugana.”
Various activities are slated. Among the highlights are the street dance and capitol employees’ Latin dance contest.
The celebration will kick off with a street dance/opening parade of all employees on April 8 at 7 a.m. from Sunburst Park to the capitol grounds. The employees are divided into clusters (according to floors) for the parade.
It will be followed by a regular flag ceremony at 8 a.m., a mass at 9 a.m. and an opening program at 10 a.m.
In the afternoon, there will be a Battle of the Bands at SM City Southpoint at 5 p.m. organized by the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation Office.
Simultaneous with the event is the Zumba Dance from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the capitol grounds.
The free Zumba Dance is scheduled on April 8, 10, and 11 and is open to all employees and Zumba enthusiasts.
Activities for April 10 include the launching of the Iloilo Provincial Archives and Library System; surgical mission (Operation Tuli) by the Hospital Management Office; Coop Congress; and Inter-Municipal Hiligaynon Vocal Duet Competition and Inter-Municipal Folk Dance Competition organized by the Provincial Tourism Office.
On April 11, there will be a Service Recognition; and Pasidungog 2019 or recognition of the Iskolar sang Iloilo recipients, both organized by the Human Resource Management and Development Office.
Capping the celebration on April 12 are the vocal solo contest and Latin dance contest which are exclusive to capitol employees only.
The 118th Semana sang Iloilo will also feature sports events. (LHC, Capitol news/PN)
