ILOILO – The newly upgraded lactation room at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol, located on the second floor of Casa Real de Iloilo, is now ready to accommodate breastfeeding mothers.

The facility, overseen by the Iloilo Provincial Health Office (IPHO) under Dr. Maria Socorro Colmenares- Quiñon, offers a safe, private, and hygienic space for breastfeeding employees and clients transacting with the provincial government.

The lactation room is furnished with a two-seater sofa, outlets for electric breast pumps, a refrigerator for breast milk storage, sanitation facilities, a clean flat surface for breastfeeding essentials, and adequate lighting and ventilation.

The room is accessible during regular working hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

However, the IPHO advises mothers to schedule an appointment in advance, as the room can only accommodate two clients at a time, making coordination essential.

Capitol employees planning to use the facility are encouraged to inform their immediate supervisors to ensure that their usage is within reasonable time and does not disrupt their work.

Additionally, a counselor or healthcare worker will be available to assist mothers with breastfeeding challenges and provide referrals if necessary.

The lactation room’s establishment aligns with Republic Act No. 10028, also known as the Expanded Breastfeeding Promotion Act of 2009, reflecting the provincial government’s support for breastfeeding./PN
