BACOLOD City – Four doctors in hospitals being operated by the provincial government of Negros Occidental are being investigated for alleged patient maltreatment and medical malpractice.
Negros Occidental provincial administrator Atty. Rayfrando Diaz said the complaints against the doctors were lodged before the Department of Health (DOH). He refused to name the four doctors.
Aside from the doctors, two other hospital staff are also being investigated for alleged corrupt practices such as selling hospital medicines.
According to Diaz, if the allegations were proven, the doctors and medical personnel will face sanctions.
“They ought to render quality service,” Diaz pointed out, adding that the medical personnel have big salaries and the provincial government is also releasing a huge budget to maintain the operation of the capitol-run hospitals.
The administration of Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson has been consistent in upgrading the services of district hospitals, he also stressed, citing the One Hospital System to improve healthcare.
“It should start from the barangay health workers up to the department heads,” Diaz said.
They have monitored hospitals rejecting patients by referring them to the Teresita Lopez Jalandoni District Hospital in Silay City, he revealed./PN
