ILOILO – The three-day “People Power Resbakuna” of the provincial government kicked off yesterday timed with the fourth round of the national government’s “Bayanihan Bakunahan” National Vaccination Day against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
The primary targets are the unvaccinated senior citizens.
“Naghinay gid man ang aton vaccination sa senior citizens or A2 group for mainly vaccine hesitancy and lack of access to vaccines. Kinahanglan naton nga mag-refocus sa aton nga A2,” said Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr.
The provincial government and local government units plan house-to-house vaccination of senior citizens.
“We are re-focusing and intensifying sang aton pagbakuna sa aton mga senior citizens. We have hired vaccinators,” said Defensor.
The governor also said he plans to resume the vaccination held on Feb. 25 at the provincial capitol lobby. It was open to “walk-ins” – children from five to 11 years old, youngsters from 11 to 17 years old, and the rest of the adult population.
“We are coordinating with the Department of Social Welfare and Development kon paano naton mabakunahan ang madamo sang aton A2. Mangita kita sang activity nga i-dugang para matipon sila,” said Defensor.
The first National Vaccination Day (NVD) was held from Nov. 29 to Dec. 1, 2021, with 9.9 million people vaccinated nationwide.
NVD’s second phase, which included 7.4 million doses across the country, ran from Dec. 15 to Dec. 23, 2021, and its third phase, which included three million doses nationwide, ran from February 10 to 18.
As of March 1, the number of fully-vaccinated senior citizens of in Iloilo province reached 145,478 or 61 percent of the 239,155 target population.
On the other hand, 154,270 senior citizens are waiting for their second dose to be deemed fully vaccinated, too.
