PSA begins Census of PH business, industry Phase I

The Census of Philippine Business and Industry (CPBI) is one of the censuses conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

The 2018 CPBI Phase I or the comprehensive 2018 Updating of the List of Establishments (ULE) involves a door-to-door canvassing and inquiry on the basic characteristics of establishments to update the Statistical Business Register (SBR) for the preparation of the sample census frame. This operation will provide an updated and reliable frame for the establishment and enterprise-based surveys and censuses.

The 2018 ULE has adopted the use of the tablet-based Establishment Inquiry Application in data collection, also known as ULEapp. This application is a customized android tablet-based application designed by the PSA for exclusive use in ULE operations. Using this app, the geographic coordinates of the establishments will also be captured and included in the SBR database in preparation for the map-based monitoring and data dissemination.

In addition, the Business Register Integrated Monitoring and Processing System (BRIMPS) will be utilized in the operation. It is an online system designed to be used in the Central Office and in all Field Offices for all the SBR-related processes. The use of these innovative procedures and technology in the processes of censuses and surveys like ULE is one of the strategic thrust goal of PSA.

The Iloilo Provincial Statistical Office (IPSO) has hired 26 field interviewers and 8 team supervisors which have started the conduct of the said survey last April 16, 2018 and the operation is still on going. In line of this activity, the IPSO has conducted a Consultative Forum and Data Appreciation of CPBI Phase I – 2018 Comprehensive Updating of List of Establishments (ULE) on April 20, 2018 in Iloilo Days Hotel 6th Floor, Mandurriao Hall, Atrium Mall, Gen. Luna St., Iloilo City.

The event was attended by the Municipal/City Business Permit Licensing Officers (BLPO) and representatives from huge establishments in Iloilo. The IPSO personnel relayed to the attendees about CPBI Phase I – 2018 ULE’s overview and its purposes, and also presented the e-Classification. Furthermore, PSO Nelida Amolar of IPSO has requested the attendees to support the on-going operation by assisting the field interviewers during their field work and giving them their inputs. The 2018 CPBI Phase I is expected to end on July 2018./PN
