PSA starts business, ICT surveys

ILOILO City – In order to gather significant data that will help the private sector as well as the government in policy making, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in Western Visayas has started its 2013 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) and the 2013 Survey on Information and Communication Technology (SICT) this month.

From Sept. 1 to 30, PSA field personnel is going rounds to selected sample establishments to personally deliver questionnaires for both ASPBI and SICT.

Ten days after the distribution, the questionnaires will be collected to analyze the data that the establishments have given.

The ASPBI aims to gather data on employment, compensation, income, expense, total assets, capital expenditures, and inventories.

The data gathered will help generate indicators from the variables that will determine the levels, structure and trend of economic activities of the economy’s formal sector for the reference year 2013.

In addition, the data will also be utilized in formulating economic development plans that will further boost the region’s trade and industry.

Meanwhile, the 2013 SICT is expected to gather data regarding the availability, distribution and access/utilization of ICT among the various industries and trades in the Philippines.

The data collected will be important indicators to measure how progressive ICT industry is in the country.

The survey will also become one of the bases of decision makers in both private and public sectors to develop policies and to encourage investors to poor money on ICT as an important factor in their respective businesses.

PSA, being the primary agency responsible for all national censuses and surveys, conducts sectoral statistics, consolidation of selected administrative recording and compilation of the national accounts conducts ASPBI and SICT.
