PSC scouts for new sports stars via Batang Pinoy

ILOILO City – Through the ongoing 2019 Batang Pinoy Visayas Leg, the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) hopes to discover potential sports stars from the grassroots.

According to PSC governor Arnold Agustin, young athletes showing promising talent could be considered for the national training pool of various sports disciplines.

Thus, said Agustin, Batang Pinoy encourages the participation of athletes even from far-flung areas.

Seeing action in the ongoing Visayas leg being hosted by the local governments of this city and Iloilo province are 2,797 athletes (1,232 female and 1,565 male). Winners will see action in the Batang Pnoy national finals this October.

The main venue of the competition is the Iloilo Sports Complex in La Paz district here.

“Our discoveries would be trained to become national athletes,” said Agustin.

PCS has identified 20 sports disciplines which it believes Filipinos could excel. These are:

* archery

* law tennis

* arnis

* athletics

* badminton

* swimming

* chess

* table tennis
