MANILA – The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) is hoping that sporting events will return soon now that the community quarantine is relaxing in most parts of the country.
The PSC already submitted its recommendations on the reintroduction of sports to the Department of Health (DOH) and to the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID).
No specific sports were mentioned as PSC does not have yet timetables or parameters, but the recommendation presented conditions to be met on different community quarantine scenarios, optimizing athlete and community safety.
“We know that sports and physical activities are still very important to strengthen one’s immune system during this coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) health crisis,” said PSC Chairman William Ramirez.
He added: “We are hopeful that the DOH and the IATF-EID will consider the recommendations submitted to provide a guide for our citizenry who are eager to engage on outdoor activities again.”In compliance with the IATF-EID’s guidelines, the PSC cancelled its Philippine National Games, Philippine Youth Games-Batang Pinoy, and the 2020 National Sports Summit due to COVID-19 pandemic.
The country’s hosting of the 10th Asean Para Games was also abandoned after it was suspended several times./PN
