MANILA – The Philippine Superliga-F2 Logistics squad has tempered its expectations in the 2016 FIVB Women’s Volleyball Club World Championship slated from Oct. 18 to 23 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
PSL-F2 Logistics head coach Moro Branislav said the chances of the Philippine team making it to the finals is close to nil as it will be going up against the best volleyball clubs from all over the world.
“The Philippine team may not win, understand? But my players will try everything,” Branislav told the media following a recent tuneup game. “Maybe next week they will play better.”
Leading the way for the PSL-F2 Logistics squad are team captain Rachel Anne Daquis, Guimaras-native Jovelyn Gonzaga, Mika Reyes, Kim Fajardo, Jennylyn Reyes, Frances Molina, and Jaja Santiago.
The team’s reinforcements include American Stephanie Niemer and Lindsay Stalzer, Puerto Rican Lynda Morales, Yevgeniya Nyukhalova of Ukraine, Ekaterina Krivets of Russia, Tichaya Boonlert of Thailand, and Yuri Fukuda of Japan.
PSL-F2 Logistics Manila is up for a huge challenge against VakifBank and Eczacibasi VitrA of Istanbul, Turkey, Hisamitsu Springs Kobe of Japan, Bangkok Glass of Thailand, Pomi Casalmaggiore of Italy, Volero Zurich of Switzerland, and Rexona-Sesc Rio of Brazil.
The PSL All-Star team will open its campaign against the Rexona Ades of Brazil on Oct. 18 followed by Pomi Casalmaggiore of Italy on the 20th and the EczacibasiVitrA Istanbul of Turkey on the 21st.
“This is a big score for Philippine volleyball because of the promotion, the big number of people and the big number of children who will come to watch,” said Branislav, who also handles the Foton Tornadoes in the PSL Grand Prix./PN
