MANILA – F2 Logistics Cargo Movers made a short work of Generika-Ayala Lifesavers 25-22, 25-14, 25-10 in the 2018 Philippine Superliga Grand Prix at the Star Arena in Baliuag, Bulacan.
Ara Galang came up with her best performance yet since returning from injury with 18 points – 13 attacks, four blocks and a service ace – for Lifesavers, the defending champion.
Lifesavers, which missed the services of American import Kennedy Bryan for the second straight game, remained on second place in the standings after the Tuesday game with a 7-1 win-loss card.
From a tight exchange early in the opening set, Cargo Movers surged to a 21-18 lead on hits by Cherry Nunag. Lifesavers came to within 20-21 but Nunag, Cha Cruz and Kim Fajardo came up with hits to close the set.
Cargo Movers waxed hot early in the second period to take a 7-2 start but Lifesavers got close 7-10. F2 then pulled away with conversions from Galang, Maria Jose Perez and Michelle Morente for a 24-12 lead.
In the third set F2 went for the kill with an 8-1 lead on errors by Lifesavers. Cargo Movers’ lead grew further with Abi Maraño and Cruz converting consecutive points to wrap up the match in straight sets.
Reinforcement Darlene Ramdin was the lone bright spot for Lifesavers. Failing to sustain its energy after its upset win over Cignal HD Spikers, the team slid to a 2-6 win-loss record./PN
