ILOILO City – The city government kicked off its campaign against illegal parking yesterday by apprehending 88 vehicles.

Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO) head Jeck Conlu said they have four teams dedicated to anti-illegal parking operations.

Aside from illegal and noisy mufflers, Mayor Jerry P. Treñas ordered the PSTMO to run after illegal parked vehicles that cause traffic congestion.

“Sige-sige na ‘ni ang aton operation. This will be a year-round campaign,” said Conlu.

“Eighty percent” of the vehicles apprehended yesterday were private vehicles, he said. Citation tickets were issued for a fine of P200.

If the driver is not around during the operation, the PSTMO would alarm the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and a complaint for violating the city ordinance will be filed at the LTO against the driver.

According to Conlu, the PSTMO is also acquiring a tow truck and clamping equipment this year to bolster their campaign./PN
