ILOILO City – As part of preparations for the Local Public Route Transport Plan (LPTRP) implementation, the Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO) is nearing completion of its mapping of loading and unloading bays throughout the city.
The PSTMO collaborated with the City Planning and Development and City Engineering offices in this effort.
PSTMO head, Jeck Conlu, emphasized that these bays must be mapped and equipped with temporary signage before the LPTRP can be put into action.
The markings will instruct both passengers and drivers on designated stop or wait points.
Both traditional and modernized jeepneys are required to adhere to these markings, Conlu said.
Around 1,000 loading and unloading bays throughout the city streets await marking.
As of yesterday, six out of the city’s seven districts – City Proper, Molo, Mandurriao, Arevalo, Lapuz, and Lapaz – have been fully mapped.
The mapping in Jaro district is ongoing.
Rizal Alido, president of Western Visayas Alliance Transport Cooperatives and Corp. Inc. and manager of the Iloilo City Alliance Operators and Drivers Transport Cooperative, confirmed the readiness of his cooperative members for the LPTRP implementation and expressed hope for its swift commencement./PN
