But vendors are only allowed to occupy the designated spaces until midnight on Dec. 31, Conlu said.

He added that the PSTMO, together with the Philippine National Police and Bureau of Fire Protection, ensures that there is no selling of firecrackers in the downtown area.

There are a total of 399 fruit vendors that were given permits by the city government to sell in designated areas.

Mayor Jerry Treñas issued Executive Order No. 151, Series of 2023, which enabled regulated open sidewalk vending to promote economic growth throughout the holiday season.

The designated vending areas include:

* Iznart Street (from Jollibee to POS Marketing); J.M. Basa Street (from Socorro to Regent); Ledesma Street (from Iloilo Auto Supply to Pro-Racing)

* Valeria to Delgado streets (from F&C to Iloilo Supermart)
