Public consultation on constitutional amendments in Iloilo City

ILOILO – The House of Representatives’ Committee on Constitutional Amendments will hold a public consultation in Iloilo City on the proposed amendments to the 1987 Philippine Constitution.

Iloilo 3rd District’s Cong. Lorenz Defensor said the tentative date is Feb. 13.

The consultation may be held either at the University of the Philippines Visayas – Little Theatre or the Iloilo Convention Center in Mandurriao district.

This is open to the public, especially to local government units, business sector, lawyers, Makabayan bloc, Ilonggo solons, non-government organizations, and other officials from the national and local government offices.

“Gusto ko ang tingog sang mga Ilonggo mabatian. Gusto ko ma-intindihan niyo kon ano ang mga pending nga panukala diri. Obligation ko ini nga i-involve ang Ilonggos sa proseso, kon ano ang manami nga himuon sa aton Constitution,” said Defensor, a member of the House Committee on Constitutional Amendments, in an interview with Panay News.

Parts of the Constitution need improvement, said Defensor, citing the need to open the economy to 100 percent foreign ownership like Taiwan, Japan and Singapore.

Cagayan de Oro City’s Cong. Rufus Rodriguez, chairperson of the Committee on Constitutional Amendments, will lead the public consultation together with other members of the committee./PN
