BACOLOD City – The Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD) is appealing to the public to help the victims of fire in Barangay Mansilingan.
DSSD head Pacita Tero said the victims need kitchen utensils, bed sheets, and clothes, among others.
Wednesday’s fire left around 15 houses damaged, affecting 22 families, according to the DSSD.
It was however not immediately clear if how many of the houses were partially or totally destroyed.
Some of the victims were now encamped at the barangay gymnasium. Others were staying in their relatives’ houses.
The DSSD has already given them food packs.
Tero said the city government will also extend financial assistance to the affected families.
According to the DSSD chief, the Bureau of Fire Protection has yet to give them results of the investigation into the cause of the blaze.
Barangay Mansilingan captain Rodolfo Pico said the houses in the area were mostly made of light materials, which allowed the fast spread of fire./PN
