BACOLOD City – With the impending lapse of provisional authority (PA) issued to several traditional public utility jeepneys (PUJs) on Dec. 31, the Bacolod Alliance of Commuters, Operators, and Drivers (BACOD) plans to hold a transport strike next week.
Rudy Catedral, BACOD president, said they are one with the plan of protest by MANIBELA to start tentatively next week.
He added their group will hold protests until a new memorandum circular is issued by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board.
The local transport group said it opposes the consolidation out of fear of not having a voice, noting that a cooperative is governed by only one person.
About 800 traditional PUJs are plying in the city with PA.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, Dec. 10, their group will take part in the observance of the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
BACOD will join the groups Human Rights Alliance Negros and the One Negros Ecumenical Council./PN
