MANILA – Petro Gazz Angels fashioned out a hard-fought three-set triumph against Akari Power Chargers, 25-21, 25-23, and 25-17, in the PVL 1st All-Filipino Conference at the Filoil EcoOil Arena in San Juan over the weekend.
Brooke Van Sickle had another fine offensive game with 24 points, while Negrense Jonah Sabete and Ilongga Aiza Maizo-Pontillas contributed 12 and nine markers, respectively, as the Angels improved to 3-1.
“I want to give credit to my teammates for their solid support for me throughout the match,” the Filipina-American rookie said during her Player of the Game interview.
It was not a walk-in-the-park win for the Angels, as the Power Chargers showed commendable performance in all three sets by pushing Petro Gazz to the limit.
Negrense Christine Joy Soyud paced Akari with 13 points; Soltones struggled with just seven points; and Janine Marciano and Mereophe Sharma ended up with five markers apiece as they dropped to 1-3.
Meanwhile, PLDT High Speed Hitters returned to their winning ways by taking down the Capital1 Solar Energy Solar Spikers in straight sets, 25-13, 25-15, 25-16.
Savannah Davison spearheaded the High Speed Hitters with 22 points, including 19 on attacks, while Fiola Ceballos added 10 markers as they improved to 4-1 in the standings.
“The girls bring a lot of energy during game day, and it’s good to feed off them,” said Davison, who also contributed nine excellent digs to earn Player of the Game honors.
Rhea Dimaculangan finished with 12 excellent sets and two points, while Kath Arado anchored the team’s defense with 13 excellent digs and six receptions.
Heather Guino-o and Sydney Niegos showed the way for Capital1 with six points apiece, while Jannine Navarro had four markers. They dropped to a 1-3 record./PN
