MANILA – Chery Tiggo Crossovers rode on Victorinara Galang’s explosive showing to score a 20-25, 25-23, 22-25, 25-18, 15-11 victory against Capital1 Solar Energy Solar Spikers in the PVL 2nd All-Filipino Conference on Tuesday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
The former De La Salle University Lady Spikers standout finished with 23 points, on 18 attacks, four blocks, and a service ace, as the Crossovers had a winning start under new head coach Norman Miguel.
“Siyempre kailangan naming mag ipon ng mga panalo, good thing nakapitan namin ito kahit five sets a nd nakita namin kung papaano kami maglaro together,” Galang said during her Player of the Game interview.
“Collective effort kami eh, hindi lang ‘yung anim na nasa loob ng court, maganda ‘yung nagbibigay ng perspective and strategies ‘yung mga nasa labas, ‘yung coaches and teammates, and nag work naman,” she added.
With the score tied at 9-all in the fifth set, Chery Tiggo went on a 4-0 run via an attack by Galang, a service ace by Abigail Marano, a drop shot by Mary Rhose Dapol, and a Capital1 error for a 13-9 lead.
The Solar Spikers cut the deficit to 11-13 on a service error by Marano and an attack from Leila Cruz, but the Crossovers responded with a connection from Dapol and a service ace from Galang to seal the win.
Meanwhile, PLDT High Speed Hitters overcame a tough challenge by NxLed Chameleons for a 25-15, 25-17, 22-25, 25-22 victory to open their campaign.
Rookie Angelica Alcantara finished with 13 excellent sets to go with three points to be named Player of the Game for the High Speed Hitters.
“Siguro ‘yung pagiging focus lang and pagiging mindful na gampanan ‘yung role na ibinigay sa akin ng coaches,” said Alcantara, who started in place of injured setter Kim Fajardo.
“Mabigat siya (na responsibility) at palagi namang may pressure, pero sa tulong ng mga teammates ko, mga ate ko, nagkakaroon ako ng confidence,” added the former Adamson University Lady Falcons playmaker./PN
