MANILA – Petro Gazz Angels continued their winning ways in the PVL 2nd All-Filipino Conference with a 25-18, 25-18, 25-22 sweep over Galeries Tower Highrisers over the weekend at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.
Ilongga Aiza Maizo-Pontillas made her presence felt with 12 points, all coming from attacks, to be named Player of the Game as the Angels notched their eighth consecutive win for a 9-1 record.
Despite their winning run, Maizo-Pontillas said in a post-game interview that the Angels still needed to maintain their consistency after they were pushed to the limit by the Highrisers in the third set.
“Sobrang dami pa naming miscommunications, ‘yun ang kailangan pa naming i-improve, kailangan pa naming gandahan ‘yung ginagalaw namin sa loob ng court,” Maizo-Pontillas said.
“Siguro kailangan pa naming maging consistent sa mga galaw namin and bawasan pa namin ‘yung mga errors namin,” added the former University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses mainstay.
Myla Pablo top-scored for the Angels with 17 points, on 14 attacks, three service aces, and a block, while Brooke Van Sickle delivered 15 markers, with 11 attacks and four blocks.
Jhoanna Maraguinot was the lone double-digit scorer for the Highrisers with 12 points, including 11 attacks, while Ysabel Jimenez contributed seven markers. They dropped to a 1-9 record.
Meanwhile, PLDT High Speed Hitters handed defending champions Creamline Cool Smashers their first with a 30-28, 25-21, 23-25, 18-25, 16-14 thriller.
