MANILA – The Premier Volleyball League (PVL) is also looking to salvage at least a conference this year.
PVL president Ricky Palou said that they are hoping to hold at least the Open Conference this September if the coronavirus disease 2019 situation in the country normalizes.
“It will be difficult, but we are still studying the prospects of having a conference for this year. This is if the authorities (will) allow us to stage it,” Palou said. “We need to comply with the guidelines set by the authorities.”
According to Palou, nine member teams – highlighted by defending champion Creamline Cool Smashers and runner-up PetroGazz Angels – have expressed readiness to compete in the Open Conference.
The PVL initially planned to start its 2020 season last May 30 via its Reinforced Conference but dropped the the staging due to the growing cases of the virus back then.
The PVL, Philippine Superliga, Philippines Football League, and Philippine Basketball Association are some of the country’s top sporting leagues which remain on halt due to COVID-19. UAAP and NCAA, on the other hand, were forced to abandon the remainder of its tournament./PN
