MANILA – The Premier Volleyball League (PVL) will kick-start its fourth season with the Open Conference instead of the usual Reinforced Conference, PVL president Ricky Palou said.
According to Palou, adjustments have been by the league since teams will have difficulties flying in foreign reinforcements due to the current situation of the coronavirus disease 2019 in the country.
“In the current situation kasi, baka ‘yung mga foreign players mag-hesitate pumunta dito and baka mahirapan na ang mga teams na makakuha ng imports,” Palou said in a statement, adding that the tournament schedule must be adjusted.

PVL was expected to start on May 30. However, the government extended the enhanced community quarantine imposed in Luzon until April 30 and could make it still last longer.
“Initially, May 30 sana ang opening with the Reinforced Conference. But with our current situation with the coronavirus, I don’t think we can proceed with that,” he said. “I’m going to propose to the team owners that we will start with the Open Conference instead.”

Naka-quarantine tayo, and ang mga teams walang training kasi nga bawal. Even after this quarantine, I think hindi rin enough ang time to train kasi teams will need at least a month or two para makapag-training,” he added.

“We cannot say kung kailan kami makakapag-meeting dahil nga dito sa coronavirus. Lahat nga ng sports natigil din. Nakakahinayang nga rin yung UAAP. Hopefully, maging maayos na lahat by the end of April,” Palou further said./PN
