MANILA – Brooke Van Sickle delivered a standout performance as Petro Gazz Angels scored a 25-16, 25-23, 25-21 sweep against PLDT High Speed Hitters in the PVL 1st All-Filipino Conference over the weekend at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
The Filipina-American rookie amassed 23 points, showcasing 21 attacks, one block, and a service ace as the Angels bounced back from their loss to the Choco Mucho Flying Titans, elevating their record to 2-1 in the win-loss column.
Angels assistant coach Stephen Patrona said head coach Koji Tsuzurabara immediately made the adjustment from their miscues during their five-set defeat to the Flying Titans last Tuesday.
“We’ve learned from our last game against Choco Mucho; coach Koji immediately addressed those errors namin last game, and the girls did respond kita naman sa game na ito,” Patrona said in a post-game interview.
Negrense Jonah Sabete backed up Van Sickle offensively with 13 points; Petro Gazz skipper Remy Palma added nine markers; and Aiza Maizo-Pontillas and setter Chie Saet each scored four points.
Savannah Davison finished with 19 points, while Erika Santos contributed 10 markers for the High Speed Hitters, which suffered their first defeat after a 2-0 start to this conference.
Choco Mucho Flying Titans, meanwhile, claimed the solo first place, securing a 25-9, 25-23, 20-25, 25-17 victory over the Chery Tiggo Crossovers. The Flying Titans improved to 3-0, while the Crossovers dropped to 2-1.
Kat Tolentino showcased her impressive offensive skills, concluding with 17 points, earning her Player of the Game honors, while Cherry Rondina delivered a remarkable performance with 23 points and 13 excellent receptions.
Maddie Madayag displayed defensive prowess with six blocks, contributing 10 points. Cherry Nunag and Isa Molde added eight and six markers, respectively, to the Flying Titans’ overall effort.
Cignal HD Spikers showcased their bench depth, securing a commanding 25-14, 25-16, and 25-17 triumph over Galeries Tower Highrisers for a 2-0 start. The Highrisers dropped to 0-2./PN
