ILOILO City – Sixteen students with disabilities from various colleges and universities were given P5,000 allowance each recently by the city government.
There were four recipients from the University of Iloilo, three each from the Iloilo Science and Technology University and Iloilo Baptist College, two each from West Visayas State University and Western Institute of Technology, and one each from the University of San Agustin and Colegio de San Jose.
The City Social Welfare and Development Office, in coordination with Office of Persons with Disability Affairs (OPDA), have been providing qualified PWD students with educational assistance.
“This program is intended for those who are willing to pursue their studies despite of poverty, especially those who are graduating PWD students,” said OPDA head Blesilda Mabilog.
The educational assistance was part of P150,000 allocated budget for PWDs’ educational projects last year.
“The allowances given them are a very big help. They have a hard time looking for sources of funds because of their condition,” said Mabilog. (Iloilo City PIO/PN)
