ILOILO – The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) headed by Sarah M. Barayuga encourages all persons with disability (PWDs) from the province’s second district to participate in the upcoming blood donation activity to be held in Barangay San Jose covered gym, San Miguel town on Sept. 22.
According to Ann Rapunzel “Rara” Ganzon, Development Management Officer 2 and PSWDO spokesperson, together with the Philippine Red Cross (PRC)-Iloilo, they target to gather 50 successful blood PWD donors.
In case they (PWDs) cannot donate, family members or relatives may take their place, Ganzon said.
The blood donation activity will start from 7:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon.
PWDs from the towns of Alimodian, Leganes, Leon, New Lucena, Pavia, San Miguel, Santa Barbara, and Zarraga may participate by coordinating with their respective Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) for instructions and assessment.
Ganzon explained that this endeavor is important in case they, or any of their fellow PWDs, need blood transfusion.
“We want nga all PWDs ang magadonar sang dugo kay para makabulig sa ila kapareho nga PWDs but nevertheless kon may kautoran kita sa tagsa ka mga hospital sa probinsya nga nagakinahanglan sang dugo puede gid ihatag sa gihapon ang dugo sang PWDs,” said Ganzon in an interview with Panay News.
Last February 2022, PSWDO launched the PWDs blood donation activity which will be regularly held every quarter.
Two months ago, PSWDO and PRC-Iloilo visited Guimbal to conduct the activity at the municipal covered gym for PWDs from the first district, which is composed of the towns of Guimbal, Igbaras, Miag-ao, Oton, San Joaquin, Tigbauan, and Tubungan.
This coming December, PSWDO and PRC-Iloilo will visit the town of Mina in the third district to give chance to the PWDs there to donate blood as well. The following towns compose the third district: Badiangan, Bingawan, Cabatuan, Calinog, Janiuay, Maasin, Mina, and Pototan.
And possibly by the first quarter of 2023, the schedule would be for the fourth and fifth districts, respectively.
“This is a noble cause. Kabalo gid kita kon ano ka importante sang dugo kay nagasugpon ini sang kabuhi ang isa ka tawo. Gabay nga magasuporta kamo sa sini nga kawsa,” added Ganzon.
PWDs or other individuals who wish to donate blood must have a complete sleep for eight hours, drink plenty of water, and drink their maintenance medicines if any./PN
