
ILOILO City – Lady Pythons and San Miguel Latinos clinched the women’s and men’s championship in the Gametime Invitational Volleyball League over the weekend at the Pavia, Iloilo multipurpose gym.
The Lady Pythons captured the women’s division championship by defeating AC in the gold medal match 26-24, 21-25, 25-15, 25-16.
Niña Berlin was hailed as the Most Valuable Player following a consistent showing for the Lady Pythons since the group stage until the playoffs round.
Aside from her MVP trophy, Berlin, who played for I Arroyo Elem. School in elementary and in Iloilo City National High School in secondary, was also part of the Mythical 6 as Best Receiver.
On their way to the championship round, Lady Pythons defeated Unicorn, 25-15, 25-13, 12-25, 25-17, while AC turned back Maddyline in the other semifinals game.
Team Maddyline, meanwhile, salvaged a bronze medal finish in the competition as it defeated Unicorn, 25-16, 19-25, 27-25 in the battle-for-third place match.
In the men’s category, San Miguel Latinos took home the championship following a 25-20, 20-25, 25-14, 25-17 victory over powerhouse Dumangas in the finals.
Ritchie Mahilum was hailed as the Most Valuable Player in the men’s division after coming up with a strong performance for the Latino in the gold medal game.
The Latinos reached the finals after scoring a 25-22, 25-22, 25-20 triumph over Pythons, while Dumangas was pushed to the limit by the IDC Alumni in the semis.
Pythons went home with the third place trophy in the men’s division after a 25-17, 18-25, 29-27 beating of IDC Alumni in the third place match./PN
