KALIBO, Aklan – Ovil “Susan Margarette Garcia” Flores was declared as Queen of Aklan 2017 during the pageant’s coronation night in this capital town on Thursday.
Flores, 46, bested 19 other gay male candidates who joined the pageant, which promotes HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) and AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) awareness.
Flores, a resident of Altavas, Aklan, is an engineering graduate of the Garcia College of Technology.
He bagged two minor awards: Miss Advocacy and Miss Social Media Choice.
Meanwhile, Asia Adriana Ibarra of Malinao, Aklan – who got the Miss People’s Choice, Best in Production Number, Best in Evening Gown, and Best in Festival Costume awards – was crowned as Aklan Queen for Gender Equality.
Mika Uy of Kalibo, on the other hand, was crowned as the Aklan Queen for Tourism.
Also in the top 5 were the 1st runner-up Devine Pogoy of Malay, Aklan and 2nd runner-up Kristina Cassandra Ybarra of Numancia, Aklan.
Ybarra got the Miss Darling of the Press and Best in Swimsuit awards.
Miss Photogenic and Miss Forever Young Skin corporate awards went to Rubi Lesigues of Malinao, Aklan while Ayen Kim Melgar of Kalibo got the Queen Aces Driven Sante Barley award.
New Washington’s Samantha Reyna Quimpo and Kalibo’s Magnolia Julie got the Best in Talent and Miss Congeniality awards, respectively.
Butterfly Brigade, an LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) group which advocates for HIV and AIDS awareness, organized the pageant. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
