KALIBO, Aklan – Former Sangguniang Panlalawigan member Rodson Fojas Mayor declared his candidacy for governor in the 2022 election which is still 19 months away.
The former Provincial Board member from Altavas, Aklan could be clashing against the son of Gov. Florencio “Joben” Miraflores, Ibajay town mayor Jose Enrique “Joen” Miraflores.
Governor Miraflores, now on his third consecutive term, is barred by law from seeking a fourth consecutive term.
The election is on May 2022.
Another likely candidate for governor is former Kalibo mayor William Lachica, who lost to the elder Miraflores in the 2019 polls.
Mayor served as Provincial Board member from 2007 to 2016.
Last year, he ran again for a seat in the Provincial Board (1st District) as an independent candidate but lost.
“Oras na ang gubernador ay dito rin dapat sa eastern side ng Aklan. Pag ako ang nanalo, ang unang proyekto ko ay ang widening of the Banga-Libacao at Altavas-Balete roads,” said Mayor who said he intends to run as an independent candidate.
He also vowed to resign from the Aklan governorship if it is proven that there is corruption in his administration./PN
