MANILA – Having a squad composed of young guns and veterans, Rain or Shine (RoS) Elasto Painters is confident about its chances in the suspended 2020 Philippine Basketball Association Philippine Cup.
RoS mainstay Gabe Norwood said that the team’s current roster list has the tools to be competitive in the All-Filipino conference and can do better than a semifinals finish last year.
The Elasto Painters has four rookies in
the names of Ilonggo Clint Doliguez, Adrian Wong, Rashleigh Rivero, and Vince
Tolentino.
RoS veterans, on the other hand, are Norwood, Negrense James Yap, Beau Belga,
Mark Borboran, Norbert Torres, Kris Rosales, Jewel Ponferrada, and returning
guard Ryan Araña.
Norwood said: “We kind of have a youth movement happening in our team, and of course, everybody in between who knows their roles. I really think we have a good mix.”
“This is the kind of team that can go long in a series. If we make it to the playoffs, we are a tough team to get out. That’s what we’re working towards offensively,” Norwood, a longtime Gilas Pilipinas international, added.
“We’re really coming together. But more important, we can really be a creative team defensively. There are just a lot of guys who can play multiple positions on both offense and defense,” he further said.
Norwood – RoS team captain – revealed
that he is excited to be on the court again once the Philippine Cup resumes
from hiatus following the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine to suppress
the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019.
“You hear it is May, you hear it is June, and you hear it is July,”
said Norwood on different speculations about the resumption of the season.
“Hopefully, we can come together soon in the PBA./PN
