Random thoughts

IT’S MONDAY and over the weekend we seemed to have accumulated quite a number of stray semantic memories or random thoughts if you will.

They appear unrelated but just like jazz they’ll come together in the end. Yes, they give the impression of being a clever way to condescend and you may be right there. But the purpose is not to convince rather to make you think.

Let’s start with something from our former colonizer, the “good old US of A”.

US president Joe Biden has always claimed that he is a devout Catholic and as if to emphasize that, he is always seen attending Sunday mass. But the thing is, he supports abortion both personally and as a matter of public policy for his administration, while the Catholic Church is against abortion and classifies it as a grave sin, making the whole devout Catholic claim an oxymoron.

It has now got to the point that the US Conference of Catholic Bishops are seriously planning to ban him from receiving Holy Communion for his “judicial killing of the unborn.”.

Meanwhile, in these islands some members of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines or CBCP are triggered and up in arms over a few “putang inas”.

Ponder on this; Black Lives Matter movement is funded by George Soros to the tune of $33 million dollars.

And on the home front:

It appears that General Parlade never said that the senators are stupid. What he said was “to defund the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict or NTF-ELCAC is stupid.” Now it seems the senators whose feathers were ruffled swallowed “hook line and sinker” the usual slanted news coming from the usual newspaper.

On the other hand, anybody applying for a job in the Philippines is asked by would-be employers either a police or National Bureau of Investigation clearance; this is to assure the employers that they’re not hiring convicted criminals or ones with criminal cases. Meanwhile down at the Senate, supposedly composed of “honorable statesmen/women”, there is currently a certain Joel Villanueva sitting as a senator who is convicted of graft and malversation of public funds in a P10-million Priority Development Assistance Fund case and is ordered dismissed by the Ombudsman from holding public office. Is this a mockery of our justice system or the epitome of stupidity?

For “Sen. Joel Villanueva” to say that he wants to “protect” public funds is akin to a pedophile saying he wants to protect children from sexual abuse.

Still on this silly little thing called politics, some netizens have manifested adverse reactions to a photo of Sen. Bong Go in an ambulance seemingly giving aid and comfort to someone. Really, they’re that triggered. He’s a politician, they all do that. Try removing him from the ambulance and instead put in his place Kiko Pangilinan or Leni Robredo and you’ll notice that they’ll both do the same thing.

As I said, they’re politicians. It’s in their DNA. What’s news is if a politician ignores a photo-op moment.

It looks like Maria Ressa has won another award. Should we be surprised? I guess not. Now all that’s missing are the Oscar award, the Grammy award, an Olympic gold in either synchronized swimming or gymnastics, that is if organizers of the Tokyo Olympics 2021 pushes through despite the surge in COVID-19 cases.

Definitely, Maria Ressa will not win the Miss Universe this year as Rabiya Mateo took her place but if she did, she will win hands down. Take note that in 2010 Esquire.com named her as “one of the sexiest women alive”.

And finally, the other day I watched Elton John’s biopic “Rocketman” on Netflix and because of certain similarities I could not help comparing it to Freddie Mercury’s “Bohemian Rhapsody”. Apples and oranges. There is no comparison.

Taron Egerton was Elton John but not quite although to his credit he actually sang the songs. Rami Malek is without a doubt Freddie Mercury reincarnated.  As I’ve said before, “Bohemian Rhapsody” is probably the best biopic I’ve seen and still is. “Rocketman” is a “candle in the wind” when faced up to “Bohemian Rhapsody”. Quickly snuffed out. (brotherlouie16@gmail.com)/PN
