ILOILO City – A rape suspect arrested in Barangay Aguingay, Janiuay, Iloilo was being linked to slain drug lords Mevil Odicta Sr. and Richard Prevendido.
The 36-year-old Arnold Latigo, however, denied this.
“I don’t know them. I have never met them,” Latigo told Panay News.
Latigo was charged with rape 10 years ago. The complainant was an aunt.
The suspect was caught by Janiuay policemen around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday on the strength of an arrest warrant issued by Judge Elena Opinion of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 27.
He was not allowed to post bail.
Latigo also denied being a member of the Revolutionary Proletarian Army – Alex Bongcayao Brigade, a New People’s Army splinter group that forged a peace pact with the national government in 2000 during the Estrada presidency.
He dismissed police intelligence information describing him as a driver of Odicta, who was shot to death by unidentified gunmen in August last year in Barangay Caticlan, Malay, Aklan.
Latigo denied, too, having coddled Prevendido whom policemen killed in a shootout in Barangay Balabago, Jaro district on Sept. 1.
“We received those information but they needed validation,” said Chief Inspector John Paul Guay, Janiuay police chief./PN
