BACOLOD City – The police of Cauayan, Negros Occidental is eyeing attempted rape as motive behind the murder-stabbing incident in Barangay Poblacion on Monday.

Police Major Gary Alan Resuma said they have a person of interest in the murder of 61-year-old teacher Nancy Oliverio, as well as the wounding of her granddaughter.

The suspect broke into the house to commit rape, but Oliverio may have seen the suspect first, Resuma added.

Oliverio succumbed to a stab wound to her right shoulder.

Her wounded granddaughter is now recovering at a hospital, and the police are currently waiting for her to identify the perpetrator.

The other granddaughter, meanwhile, managed to hide unharmed during the break-in.

Cauayan police earlier said the suspect gained access through the back of Oliverio’s home, where the ceiling was under repair./PN
