MANILA – The Malacañang Press Corps continues to recognize the news website Rappler as member.
Rappler will remain a member unless the Court of Appeals upholds the Securities and Exchange Commission decision to revoke its license, the press corps said.
“MPC, an independent organization of journalists regularly covering the President and Malacañang activities, asserts its prerogative to accept, suspend or revoke membership to the body,” read part of a press corps statement released on Wednesday.
Rappler reporter Pia Ranada-Robles was barred from getting inside Malacañang on Tuesday.
She was later allowed entry to the New Executive Building, where press briefings were being held, after coordinating with the Media Accreditation and Relations Office.
Later that afternoon, Robles was banned from an event of President Rodrigo Duterte at the Rizal Hall.
The MPC said it rejects “any arbitrary attempt to bar access and harass reporters performing their duty as an independent monitor of power and guardian of public interest.”
The press corps also urged Malacañang to “communicate properly” the grounds for preventing Robles from covering events of the President./PN
